On April 17th 2013 the new videoscope was finally and officially handed over to the ENT department.
Ipswich Head and Neck Cancer Support Group would like to thank everyone who contributed to the videoscope fund we could never have got there without you. Special mention must be made to Alan Bateman and Linda Milton, their experience and enthusiasm for the project is much appreciated.
A quote from Mr Hilger “ The new videoscope is a cutting edge piece of equipment, it can only be a good thing for my patients”

When a patient has been diagnosed and a treatment plan agreed the patient then receives a folder detailing the plan, It also includes lots of information regarding support available etc.
Unfortunately, the NHS can no longer provide the binder which holds all of this information together. OOCL have very kindly donated 120 binders to the group. OOCL are a major worldwide shipping, container, logistics and transport company whose headquarters are in Hong Kong and the UK offices are located in Levington nr Ipswich.

A huge thank you to all the staff at CallConnection in Ipswich who recently had one of their monthly dress down days and raised £255.07 for our group. Group member Phil Allen suggested our group and presented us with the cheque.

At our group meeting on 5th Sept we saw the excellent preview of the DVD we have been working on for the last 12 months. It was very well done and an excellent tribute to all the hard work put in by Steve Spraggett and Amanda Ford of our group along with lots of the Medical staff and Doctors at the hospital. All gave of their time and energy free of charge which involved many hours and we are grateful to you all for this. When the finalised DVD is ready it will be given out to all newly diagnosed patients at the hospital so that it can show them what to expect and the proceedures that they might need. It is taken from a patients eye view and is very informative. Fundraising was done for this by Our Support Group and we received contributions from The Railway Pub & Klippen Pisser RC, The Mouth Cancer Foundation, The Clobber Swop (at Ipswich hospital), and The Ipswich Hospital NHS Charitable Trust. Thank you all for making this possible. We will keep you informed as to when this will be available to have.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Klippenpissers Motorcycle Club and The Railway Pub for the many fundraising activities they have done for our group and for the cheque presentations. Their help and support has helped us continue our fundraising projects to help Head & Neck Cancer Patients and their families & friends.

The “UPFRONT FESTIVAL 2011” celebrated it’s 2nd year of existence with a greatly expanded line up of local and not so local musical talent. Starting on Friday 29th July and running through to Sunday 31st just about every type of music was featured at one time or another. Saturday night was sold out and good crowds were in attendance on both Friday and Sunday. The Festival is organised by several people including Louise Juggins, landlady of the Cork bar in Felixstowe, our thanks go to her and everyone who helped out for a fantastic event.
The purpose of the festival is not only to showcase local bands but to raise much needed funds for local good causes. This years event raised £3400, split between Ipswich Head and Neck Cancer Support Group and Felixstowe Coast Watch, a wonderful effort from all the good people who took time out to go along. Next years festival is already being organised with several bands asking if they can play, it is worth remembering that they all give their time for free.
The cheque presentation took place on August 13th at the Cork bar and we were given our cheque by none other than Mr Neil Innes of Monty Python and Bonzo Dog Doodah Band fame. Neil has taken a keen interest in our group since being asked to introduce our new Patient Pathway film and has promised to play at next years festival as well as being an “Upfront” patron which will certainly boost the ticket sales.

Thank you to Melanie from The Mouth Cancer Foundation for coming all the way from London to present us with our "Gold Award" for best support group. We are grateful to her for coming and also giving us a motivating talk on what the foundation does and why she joined them. We also now appear as a link on The Mouth Cancer Foundation website. We are grateful for the award and will spend the money wisely.
